Congratulations to the 6th graduating class of the STEM Academy!
On Tuesday, May 30th, seniors walked off the stage at UNT with diploma in hand as graduates of THE Northwest High School. We hope your four years in STEM were filled with memorable experiences, and we wish you the best in all of your future endeavors. Read below about each of our 49 graduates and where they are heading!

Praveen Pai
Senior Praveen Pai has been accepted into the University of Texas, University of Texas A&M, University of Los Angeles, Ohio State University, Texas Tech University, Purdue, and Texas Christian University. He received $360,436 in scholarship money from the previously listed colleges. Out of all these options he has chosen to attend the University of Texas for a major in physics. In the future, he wants to be able to determine the science major that suits him best. He is most excited to be gaining freedom for himself and be able to drive. The project he enjoyed most was the STEMtendo project because he had fun and was able to provide a lot of good ideas for the product. His favorite memory from his time spent in STEM is from attending the rocket launch. Praveen would like to thank Ms. Hendrix for how helpful she was to him the past two years. She always helped him when he needed it and was fun to be around. Carson Lane
Carson Lane is an aspiring Civil Engineer/Architect who has been accepted at the University of Texas at Arlington. He has received the Presidential Scholarship from both Texas Tech and UTA, as well as the ACE mentor scholarship. He plans to attend UTA after he graduates and follow the Civil Engineering/Architecture major. Carson’s excited to be out on his own to see what he can accomplish. The project that was most memorable for him was the trebuchet project in the freshman engineering class. His favorite memory is of how he felt after the community reveal; the experience was rewarding because of how much he had to show off. He wants to thank every teacher for everything they did for him, especially Ms. DeLong, as he had her for three years. He believes they contributed greatly to who he is now. In five years he hopes to be well on his way to getting his Master’s Degree, and starting his career. Jackie Watkins
STEM Senior Jackie Watkins will be studying mechanical engineering. He looks forward most to his freedom after graduation without the burden of high school. Jackie’s favorite project from STEM was the school of the future because “it was the most eventful project ever.” His favorite memory was all of STEM and would like to thank Ms. DeLong because “she has been there for most of high school and helped me get through it.” In five years Jackie hopes to be a weapons engineer with his knowledge gained throughout college and training. Alexis Russell
Alexis Russell will be attending Texas Tech next fall and plans to major in Civil Engineering. After high school, she’s looking forward to being on her own and learning more about civil engineering. Her favorite STEM project was the sophomore year zoo project because she loves animals and engineering and it was a combination of both. Alexis favorite memory was the zoo field trip “It was rainy and cold, and we didn't see many animals, but it is still my favorite trip we have taken. It was so much fun having the freedom to walk the entire zoo as a group and just get to hang out and have fun together while researching for an equally fun project. My favorite memory from that day would be when we got to go inside the birdcage. Feeding the birds and laughing as they flew around us to get the bird feed was really enjoyable to me". Alexis would like to thank Ms. DeLong because she helped her discover her love of engineering. Hunter Britton
Hunter Britton has been accepted into Texas Tech University. The major Hunter will be focusing on is mechanical engineering. In five years, he wants to have a successful job as a mechanical engineer. He said, “I also wish to do research about prosthetic limbs and how I can further the technology in order to help other people.” Hunter is most excited about being able to “go into the real world and going to the dream school that I have always wanted to be in.” Hunter was the Editor-in-Chief for the Newsletter Project his junior year and he will always remember it. His favorite memory of STEM was watching his “rocket go up with my little cousin sitting on my shoulders and listening to the sound of the fuel igniting.” Hunter would like to thank Ms. Carrier “for always being there for me,” always telling me I can do it, “and that nothing is impossible.” Hunter would also like to thank Ms. Hendrix “for being the best science teacher I could ever ask for and also being a great friend these last seven years.” Tate Stearns
Tate Stearns will be attending Tyler Junior College and will be majoring in business. After graduation, Tate is excited to meet new people and travel and in 5 years he wants to run his own company. Tate’s favorite project was building the Rocket. His favorite memory of STEM was the tree house reveal at the elementary school because he said “It had really opened my eyes and showed me how far I have come, and how STEM has pushed me to be better.” Tate Would like to thank Ms. Helmick because she has helped him and supported him through so much. Casey McAchran
Casey McAchran is a senior who plans to go into aerospace engineering at University of Texas in Austin. He’s excited for the new experiences and freedom he’ll receive after he graduates. The STEM project Casey most vividly remembers is the School of the Future project, because of the rewarding feeling of its difficulty. His absolute favorite project was the Restaurant project because he got to design and lay out the restaurant himself. His favorite memory is going to Lockheed Martin’s facility recently, because he feels like he’ll work there in the future. Casey wants to thank Ms. Hendrix for making a class he had little interest in fun, and for helping him through tough times in life. Dylan Glover
Dylan Glover was accepted into Texas A&M College of Engineering and will be majoring in mechanical engineering. In the future, Dylan sees himself graduating from college and either working in the military or an engineering firm. What Dylan is looking most forward to is experiencing more freedom and independence by being on his own. His favorite project was the restaurant project because it spanned across multiple classes and his team made it on the STEM newsletter for their presentation. Dylan’s favorite memory from being in STEM is his junior showcase because his section had 70’s music playing during his presentation and his friend Garrett Funk was dancing across the aisle. Dylan wants to thank Ms. DeLong for always being there to assist him no matter the situation. Kira Miller
Kira Miller has been accepted to Weber State University and is going to major in mechanical engineer. Her favorite project in STEM was the Blog project in English. She got to experience to be a leader over a large group of people. Her favorite memory of STEM was when her classmate (Bruce) jumped over her desk and kicked her in the face. After graduation, Kira plans to travel the world and get introduced to different cultures. Kira likes to thank the whole STEM academy staff for helping her get to the place. Calista Lothliam
Calista will be attending Texas Wesleyan University in the fall and will focus on pre-med. Calita would like to see herself in 5 years attending a med school. She is most excited about new experiences, college, and the freedom after graduation. Calista's most memorable project in STEM is the school of the future. One favorite memory from STEM was going to Fredericksburg to launch rockets. A teacher that she would like to thank for support over these past 4 years is Ms. Garrett because she has been a constant support and friend/teacher. Jack Cobb
Jack Cobb is a senior that has been accepted to the University of Texas at Dallas, and focusing on mechanical engineering. He’s excited to be out of high school next year, and to have freedom. His favorite STEM project was the Bridge Project in Ms. DeLong’s class because it was challenging and fun. His favorite memories are of hanging out with his friends in the STEM commons. He wants to thank Ms. DeLong for being an outstanding teacher. Jordan Ibarra
Jordan Ibarra plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, and obtain an environmental science degree. He is excited to be in Austin and experience what life is like there. His favorite STEM project was the Zoo Project, because it’s very similar to the type of work he’d like to do in the future. His favorite memories are of lunch in the STEM commons, and building a fort out of broken trebuchets from the Trebuchet Project. He would like to personally thank Ms. Hendrix for teaching him to pick up some of his slack, and for being a positive role model for intelligent nonconformity. Garret Riley
Garrett Riley will be attending Tarrant County Community College next fall and plans to major in applied sciences. After graduation Garrett has many decisions to make, he says “Right now in my life there are many different roads to take, I could stay at UPS and potentially make a very nice wage. Another road to take would be the air force, I have talked to a lot of recruiters and it sounds tempting but the current political climate has me second guessing that option. The third option is to just get my basics at TCC and then go to an actual campus for college.” The Zoo project was his favorite project because they broke into smaller teams and got to use more creative skills than other projects. Garrett would like to thank Mr. Elder, Ms. Helmick, and Mr. Hladky for helping him get through high school. Christopher Hopkins
Christopher Hopkins has been accepted into Texas State Technical College, and the University of Texas San Antonio and will be attending the University of Texas San Antonio. Christopher will be focusing on getting his Bachelors of Business Admin for Cyber-Security. The project that Christopher enjoyed the most was the One Pound One Mile Rocket project from junior year. He said, “my class worked in harmony, and were able to see our rocket fly.” Christopher’s favorite memory of STEM was “being a part of a large family in STEM.” The teacher that Christopher would like to thank is Ms. Hendrix because “she is easy to talk to and relates to us in many ways.” Christopher is most excited about living on his own after he graduates. In five years Christopher sees himself “somewhere close to mountains, hopefully close to paying off student loans.” Nathan Fusselman
Nathan Fusselman has been accepted into and will be attending the University of Texas at Arlington and will be majoring in computer science and engineering. Nathan enjoyed the many Rocket Projects in aerospace and his favorite moment in STEM was when he was driving the competition FRC Robots. Nathan would like to thank Mr. Brown with this poem: Mr. BROWN, You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when your hairs are grey You never know, dear, how much I love you Please don't take my BEARDed sunshine away After graduation Nathan is most excited for his freedom from school and in five years he sees himself at Lockheed Martin, building drones for the military. But he will probably still be doing projects for Ms. Helmick on the side. JORGE was HERE! Zanab Toppa
Zanab has been accepted to the University of Texas at Arlington. She has received $4,000 from an ACE scholarship and will be majoring in industrial engineering at UTA. Her favorite project in STEM was the School of the Future Project. She states that it was the first major project in STEM and it sparked the adventure for other projects. Zanab wants to thank Ms. Lloyd and Ms. Hendrix for believing in her and helping though overcome many problems. Zanab sees herself in five years as an industrial engineer that lives in New York, making a difference . Zanab is really excited to meet new people with different backgrounds at UTA and cannot wait to to study industrial engineering. Jett Smith
Jett Smith will be attending the University of Texas at Austin. While there, he will be focusing on aerospace engineering. He is looking forward to not having to worry about the school system ruining things for him in college. Jett would like to thank Ms. DeLong for all of the skills she taught him for the past three years. Colin Long
Colin Long has been accepted into the University of Texas at Arlington but will be starting his schooling at Tarrant County Community College in the fall. Colin hopes to study forensic science and is looking forward most to the freedom and the opportunity of a fresh start after high school. Collin's favorite projects included the One Mile One Pound Rocket project as well as the Restaurant Project because “getting to build a real life missile that was more successful than North Korea's missiles was pretty exciting.” Colin would like to thank Ms. Hendrix for pushing him and would like to thank her because he “actually learned in [her] class.” He would also like to thank Ms. Delong for “teaching many engineering programs that will definitely come in handy in the real world,” Ms. Mitias for not giving up on [him], or on [his] class,” and Ms. Helmick for “giving [him] the chance to be… a part of this academy.” In five years, Colin would like to be in California with his dog going wherever life may take him. Juane Ratliff
Juanne will be attending Southwestern Christian on a soccer and academic scholarship. He will be studying business and mechanical engineering. Juane looks forward most to the freedom he will obtain after high school. He loves to travel and cannot wait to experience other countries for himself. Juane’s favorite project was the Restaurant Project because “it allowed [him] to create a restaurant of [his] own design and [he] got to have the creativity to make it [his] own with limited restrictions.” His favorite memory from STEM was his first trip to the OLC because it was his first time and the team building games helped him build relationships with his classmates. Juane would like to thank Mrs. DeLong for allowing him to “choose different paths of engineering and see what [he] truly likes and what [he] wants to do,” and for providing him “with a bunch of the tools and programs that [he] needs to continue [his] career in the engineering field.” He would not be who he is today without her. In five years, Juane would like to be a professional soccer player or beginning his career in business and engineering while traveling the world where money is no problem for him. Mack Zimmerman
Mack Zimmerman wants to attend LeTourneau University in the fall. He receieved a scholarship from LeTourneau University known as "The Founder's Scholarship" giving Mack $13,000 per year. He plans to major in mechanical engineering later to have earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and gained some "real life" experience through internships to get started on his career. Eventually, he wants to experience life in a different country but what he is most excited for after graduating is the freedom that he'll have. He’s looking to being able to take his own path and live the life that he wanted to live. Mack’s favorite project that stood out the most to him was the Walker Project from his sophomore robotics class. The project gave him and his team the highest level of freedom and opportunity for creativity in his team’s final project. Even though his team face hardship he enjoyed the experience of making the project from scratch making it a great learning experience. When he was asked about his favorite memory from STEM, he said that he enjoyed the time when he visited Tanner's house to help build his teams trebuchet and nearly broke his dad's hydraulic shop press (sorry Tanner). Mack would like to especially thank Ms. Mercer for pushing him and the rest of his class farther than anyone else and teaching them how to “muscle through” a challenging class. Joshua Barnes
Joshua Barnes has been accepted to Blinn College but will be attending Brenham College and majoring in economics. His favorite memory of STEM was building the rocket for his Aerospace project. Joshua would like to thank Ms. Lloyd, his English teacher, for introducing him to Philosophy Club, providing him with an outlet where he could befriend people with similar interests. In five years, Joshua wants to be working for an investment firm. Julian Santos
Julian Santos has been accepted into Texas State and Wichita State, received the following grants: the TEXAS Grant, the Work Study Grant, and the Pell Grant scholarships. He will be attending Texas State and will be majoring in marketing and business. The project Julian will remember most is the Zoo Project. He said, “It was probably the project that gave me the most stress, and yet I was still able to create an efficient exhibit.” One favorite memory Julian has with STEM was during his sophomore year in biology when he punted an eraser and it hit Kendal in the face. The whole class laughed and she slapped him. The thing Julian is most excited for after graduation is “that I get to focus on what matters to me most and finding out more about myself and my future. New experiences and decisions will come, and being able to live a life that I get to control my destiny is important to me.” In five years, he wants “to be in marketing with side projects in entrepreneurship." Zachary Thomas
Zachary Thomas has been accepted into Kansas State University and will be moving to Kansas soon. He will be attending with help from the Powercat Scholarship and will be studying mechanical engineering. Zac’s favorite memory from STEM would be the Claw-Bot competition where his team finished third place overall, this project is where he discovered his love for design. Zac would like to thank Ms. DeLong for “always being there to help [him] even though [he] may slightly annoy her.” After high school, Zachary looks forward most to the independence and freedom he will receive. In five years, he hopes to be a 3D engineer for a major company and the freedom to explore the world. Micah German
Micah has been accepted to the University of North Texas, University of Texas Arlington, and Oklahoma State University but has decided to attend UNT. He received an Advent Christian Church Academic Achievement scholarship. In college, Micah will major in electrical engineering. His favorite project in STEM was the rocket project because it was a hands on project that took fanatical effort to complete. His favorite memory of STEM was when he went to Fredericksburg with his classmates to launch his rocket. Micah would like to thank Ms. Proudman for her excellent teaching skills throughout his STEM career. Micah is mostly excited about meeting new people after he graduates. |
Alanna Burnett
Alanna Burnett has been accepted to Texas A&M University and will be studying environmental design and architecture . After graduation Alanna will be traveling to Europe on the STEM senior trip, that she says she is, “excited to experience and see the world.” Her favorite project was the Zoo Project because that was when she, “realized [she] wanted to be an Architect and got to be creative and use [her] environmental design skills.” Her team also received the Best Zoo Presentation award which helped make it a special project for her. Alanna’s favorite memory from STEM has been the many trips she has been on and senior year has been her favorite and most memorable year in STEM. Alanna would like to thank “Ms. Delong for being like [her] school mom, someone [she] can come to with anything, inspiring [her] love for architecture, calming [her] down when I'm stressing out, convincing [her] parents to sign [her] up for the Europe trip, helping [her] fundraise the Europe trip, sharing laughs with [her], being the person [she] start[s] and end [her] day with.” As well as “mentoring [her] and pushing [her] beyond [her] comfort zone to make [her] the student and leader [she] [is] today.” In five years Alanna hopes to be working on her masters at A&M as well as to be interning under Der Izbel while working on designing the new Texas Rangers Stadium. Alex Lam
Alex Lam has received a $20,000 academic scholarship and will be attending University of Texas at Arlington. He plans on majoring in Aeronautical Engineering while attending UTA. After graduation Alex is looking forward to traveling the world and in 5 years he wants to be working for Lockheed Martin or Boeing as an aerospace engineer. Alex’s favorite STEM project was School of the Future because it incorporated every aspect of what he’s learned so far and showed him what STEM really is. His best memory was building the rocket because it was very hands on with items that actual work. Alex would like to thank Ms. Proudman because “she was someone I could talk to about my problems and she helped me throughout my years of being here. It was a great relief to know that I had someone that would be there to listen without judgment.” Daderick Mosher
Daderick Mosher has been accepted into Stephen F. Austin, majoring in biology. After graduation he wants to leave and find new things and in 5 years he wants to be a millionaire and own a Tesla. School of Future was Daderick’s favorite project and his best memory was the day after STEM showcase. Daderick would like to thank Ms. DeLong for the support over his high school years. Fernando Gonzales
Fernando Gonzalez has been accepted to University of Texas at Arlington and will be majoring in electrical engineering. After graduation he wants to pursue happiness and find a career he will enjoy. In 5 years he wants to have met the goals he has set. The zoo project was his favorite STEM project because he felt that is was the most organized and his favorite memory was the OLC field trips. He would like to thank Ms. Hendrix, He says “She has only been here a short time but I feel she has really connected to the senior class.” Edgar Macias
Edgar Macias is an aspiring mechanical engineer who’s been accepted to Texas A&M. He’s excited to have more freedom to make his own decisions once he gets to college. The most memorable project for him was the Zoo project, because it dealt with the well being of animals and gave plenty of room to innovate; it showed to him that not everything in engineering is tech related. His favorite memory is of his English III class with Ms. Carrier, and reading the Crucible. Edgar would like to thank all of his teachers, and would like to personally thank Ms. Hendrix. She would help him and other STEM students whenever they had problems in and outside of school, and she was always dependable. In five years, Edgar hopes to be traveling the world to make business partners. Garrett Funk
Garrett Funk was accepted into Texas Tech University. He will be focusing on majoring in pre-nursing while he is in college so it can help him in becoming a scrub nurse. After graduating, Garrett looks forward to traveling with his family. Out of all the projects he did during his time in STEM, his favorite is the Rube Goldberg project in physics/engineering. One of his favorite memories from STEM is Ms. Griffith's class. Garrett would also like to thank Ms. Proudman for her support during the past four years. Brian Booher
Brian Booher has been accepted into and will be attending North Central Texas College. While attending NCTC, he will be majoring in genetic engineering. In the future he plans to be working on getting his masters degree and writing music. His favorite project from STEM was the STEMtindo video game project from English II in Ms. Lloyd’s class because of the variety of skills that had to be utilized to make a good final product. Brian wants to thank all of his teachers for helping him but more importantly Ms. Hendrix for taking her time with him in class and helping him even if he may have been a disturbance at times. Bryce Harris
Bryce Harris will be attending the University of Texas A&M. Bryce will be majoring in aerospace engineering. Throughout his STEM career, his favorite project was the one mile rocket project because it was “what I wanted to do in my career.” His favorite memory of STEM was travelling out to launch his rocket that him and his team crafted. Bryce thanks all the teachers in STEM but more specifically Ms. DeLong and Ms. Lloyd. He states that “they knew more about me before I even knew.” In 5 years, Bryce sees himself with a graduate degree in aerospace engineering. After graduation, Bryce is excited about starting a new phase in his life at his dream school (Texas A&M). Gustavo Gonzales
Gustavo has been accepted to UTA and will be majoring as an electrical engineer. Throughout his STEM school life, his favorite project was the Rube Goldberg project because it was difficult. His favorite memory was the trip to the OLC (Outdoor Learning Center) since it was fun to hang out with all his friends. Gustavo would like to thank all the teachers in STEM but most importantly Ms. DeLong. He states that he had her for 3 years and “she always keeps STEM exciting.” Gustavo is excited about starting a new life after graduation with his major. In 5 years, he sees himself with a family and kids on Christmas night having the time of their lives. Dillon Duble
Dillon Duble will be attending University of North Texas and he plans to focus on architectural engineering. In the future, he wants to be living on his own and working for a major construction company. Dillon is also looking forward to a clean start after graduating and the ability to do whatever he wants with his life. Dillon found the project School of the Future the most memorable because his team forgot the model right before presentation. One of his favorite memories in STEM was the Fredericksburg rocket launch junior year. His team rocket had to go last because the workers thought it was unstable and would go ballistic, but it ended up going the highest out of all the classes. Dillon said that he wanted to thank the boys’ soccer coach because “he gave me wisdom when I was unsure about things I went to him for and kept me motivated to continue and never quit doing what I love.” James Newbaker
James Newbaker will be attending Texas A&M next year and will be majoring in mechanical engineering. After graduation, James looks forward to a change in scenery and a new environment. In 5 years, he wants to have his bachelor degree and hopes to start his career in engineering outside of Texas. His favorite project was the Rocket project because he says “I faced with a very difficult team to work with and everyone doubted the success of our project. As project manager I worked hard and built a rocket that ended up being the best flying rocket out of all of the other classes and we were basically the underdog story.” Going down to Fredericksburg was his favorite memory in STEM. James would like to thank Ms. DeLong, “For being not only a great teacher, but also being a caring person who was excited to see us everyday even when she wasn't in the best of moods. She always supported our goals and aspirations and most of all she was a friend who we could talk to when going through the stressful times of high school.” Nicholas Terrell
Nicholas Terrell has been accepted into UNT, UTA, Embry-Riddle Prescott, Texas A&M, and LSU and will be attending Texas A&M. Nicholas received the LSU Tiger Excellence Scholars Award, Texas Tiger Scholarship, Maverick Academic Scholarship, and the Embry-Riddle Presidential Scholarship. Nicholas will be majoring in Aerospace Engineering. In five years Nicholas wants to have his “bachelor’s in aerospace engineering and be working for a private aerospace company (preferably something to do with spaceflight) in Seattle.” After graduation, Nicholas is most excited for all the sleep he will get the first few weeks out of school. Nicholas enjoyed the SOTF (School Of The Future) project because of the fact that “it was fun to work with a whole class of people rather than a small team.” Nicholas’s favorite memory he has of STEM is the Fredericksburg trip his junior year. Nicholas would like to thank Ms. Lloyd for always supporting him throughout his high school career. Noah George
Noah George will be attending Tarrant County College. Noah’s favorite project was the Trebuchet Project his freshman year and one thing he will always remember is the fun times and laughs he had with his friends. The thing that Noah is most excited for after graduation is his “freedom,” and five years from now Noah sees himself running his own business. Yasin Khan
Yasin Khan will be attending Texas Tech and majoring in mechanical engineering. Yaz enjoyed School of the Future because he “put so much work into it.” One of Yasin’s favorite memories of STEM was when Carl, a STEM student at the time, walked into presentations and said, "Why are y’all dressed up?" He would like to thank Ms. Hendrix, Coach Acuna Ms. Delong, and Coach Junior for all the times they helped him. In five years, Yasin wants to still be in school working on getting his master’s degree and the thing Yasin is most excited about after graduation is “being able to show my mom I'm a big boy now." Forrest Hart
Forrest Hart plans to major in aeronautical engineering wherever he decides to go to college. After graduation Forrest looks forward to new experiences and in 5 years he hopes to work for Space X or Lockheed Martin. Forrest's favorite projects were both of the rocket projects and his favorite memory was School of the Future. Adrian Romero
Adrian Romero has been accepted into the University of North Texas and received a $10,000 scholarship. While at UNT, he will be majoring in Psychology. In the future, he wants to be a School Psychologist and living a safe and happy life. When he graduates he is most excited to pursue his career of choice and experience new people and new things. One of Adrian’s favorite memories from STEM is the Fall OLC trip. Adrian would like to thank Ms. Hendrix for being such a great teacher. Trevor Watkins
Trevor Watkins will be attending Blinn College in College Station and majoring in business. In five years, he hopes to be a successful entrepreneur. Trevor looks forward to experiencing college and living on his own. His favorite project was the Zoo Project because they got to go to the zoo and experience it in a different perspective. Javier Gonzalez will be attending the University of Texas at Arlington where he will be studying computer science. After high school Javier looks forward most to the freedom he will obtain. His favorite project was the UNESCO Project because it allowed him to gain a new perspective on other countries as well as obtaining information he wouldn't have previously received. Javier enjoyed the bonds and relationships he built in STEM and would like to thank all of his teachers for being there for him and would like to give a special thank to Ms. Hendrix for helping him through personal struggles. In five years, Javier would like to be “traveling to places and getting jobs in programming in developing countries.” Bailey Smith
Bailey has been accepted to Texas Tech, and will be attending it in the fall. She will be focusing on Architecture and Civil Engineering. She wants to graduate college with a master’s and have a job lined up with a firm in Seattle in about 5 years. She is ready to have her own life, and no bedtime. She remembers the zoo project vividly especially when she melted her team's entire model. Bailey's favorite memory is sophomore year “going to the OLC, it was freezing and my mom made me bring a blanket (thanks mom), and everyone sat under it and it was awesome.” She wants to thank all of her teachers for helping her in so many ways, but especially Ms. Lloyd and Ms. DeLong. They helped her when she wanted to break down, and were so understanding of anything she was going through. Camron Smith
Camron Smith plans to major in mechanical engineering to get a job in the railroad industry. Camron's favorite project was the School of the Future since he he liked how you could design and build your dream school. When he was asked about his favorite memory from STEM, he said that he enjoyed the excitement and challenge of building and launching his team rocket. He especially wants to thank Ms. Proudman, who was always supportive and positive and Ms. DeLong who taught him creative techniques for design and made STEM a blast for him. Hayden Gardner
Hayden Gardner wants to attend Brookhaven in the fall. He plans to major as a technician for automobiles and continue his passion to become a shop foreman at a Ford dealership in the DFW area. Hayden's favorite project was the School of the Future, he liked it the most because it involved something that could really be used in the real world. When he was asked about his favorite memory from STEM, he said that he enjoyed all the good times hanging out with his friends and all the laughs he had. He especially wants to thank Ms. Delong because she has been there for him for the past three years and has helped him achieve through everything. “She has been like my second mom and can’t thank her enough for everything she has done.” Ian Long
Ian Long will be attending Texas State. When he graduates from NHS, he wants a to enjoy summer, hang out with his friends, go to the beach, travel around, and have a taste of freedom. He plans to major in international studies and go to Nepal to seek something. Ian's favorite project was the Algebra II Fireworks Project. When he was asked about his favorite memory from STEM, he said that he enjoyed the field trips they took like Lockheed Martin and the rest of the others. Juliet Shafer
Juliet Shafer has been accepted into Harding University, Oklahoma Christian, and Abilene Christian, having received an Academic Achievement Scholarship from Harding. She will be attending Harding University and plans to major in mechanical engineering. When she graduates, she is excited about having her own place and being able to be more independent. Juliet's favorite project was the School of the Future because the classroom she designed won "Best Classroom." She also enjoyed the Zoo Project because she enjoyed being able to make a zoo interactive and enjoyed choosing the animal for her project. When she was asked about her favorite memory from STEM, she said that she enjoyed staying after school to finish projects and hanging out in the STEM commons with her friends. She especially wants to thank Ms. Lloyd because she enjoyed her class and was interested in the things she discussed in the class. Tanner Wilson
Senior Tanner Wilson was accepted into Texas Tech and Texas A&M; however, he will be going to physical training for the Navy. Tanner received the Presidential Scholarship and the Post 911 GI Bill, and the major he will be focusing on is nuclear engineering. Tanner said, “I remember the School of The Future project the most. This is because I spent so much of my free time on it. I had never worked so hard on a project before.” His favorite memory from STEM was being with his brother. He said, “Whether it was walking the halls or just him literally carrying me out of class. He really helped me my freshman year by giving me advice and just being my friend.” Tanner would like to thank Ms. DeLong because she recommended scholarships, programs, and events that would help his engineering career. He said, "She cared about what each of us in STEM did and tried to help in any way she could to get us to our goals. She got me into the ACE program, she got us interviews with companies, and she helped us through projects and programs.” After graduation, Tanner is most excited to get started in the Navy because of all of the traveling he will be doing. He will meet new people and will be exposed to so much more than just a normal classroom can offer. In five years, Tanner sees himself as a Nuclear Engineer on a aircraft carrier. Lawrence Thayer
Lawrence is graduating early, after three years in STEM. Lawrence plans to join the Air Force and wants to be a Paratrooper. After his service in the Air Force, he would like to attend the Colorado School of Mines and major in engineering. Lawrence's favorite memories from Robotics class and building/programming the claw bot. He wants to thank all of the STEM teachers for "putting up with" him. |
