Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
Hector Almada-Mill
Hector plans on going to UNT and majoring in mechanical engineering then starting his own company. Hector was able to meet many amazing friends over his high school years. Besides making new friends, he has had great teachers as well. He would like to thank: Mrs.Garrett, Ms.Hendrix, Mrs.Delong, and Mrs.Helmick have for all that they’ve done for him. Hector enjoyed his time in STEM and found his favorite project was the clawbot. Hector has a bright future and he looks forward to all of the new people that will come with college. Ally is a senior STEM student. She will be attending UT Arlington in the fall, studying Theoretical Physics and Aerospace. She enjoyed the rocket projects as this is what she wants to study in college. Ally wants to thank all her teachers for their support over the years, she couldn’t have done it without them. Thomas Doughtie
Thomas has plans after graduation of going to the University of Arkansas, which he plans on obtaining a Computer Engineering degree from. Five years from now, he hopes to be making more money than his parents with his Computer Engineering career. Thomas enjoyed his time in high school, naming a few of his favorite projects was The Restaurant project, and going to his rocket launch. Teachers that he gives gratitude for their help; Ms. Carrier as she had helped Thomas throughout his Junior year; Coach Cauble as he had introduced Thomas to pole vaulting; and Ms. Wade as she provided “amazing” snacks and drinks. Ezra Hanna
Ezra plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington and wants to major in communications. He has also received a $8,000 in academic scholarship. Ezra is looking forward to the freedom after high school, and plans to be in law school within the next 5 years,. Ezra’s favorite project was the School of the Future. His favorite memory was David Wilson walking into Mrs. Garrett's class freshman year and Mrs. Garrett wondering why there was a full grown man sitting at a desk. His favorite teacher was Ms.Lloyd because she “kept it real”. Geoffrey Hanthorn
Geoff Hanthorn is a senior at Northwest High School, and plans on getting his degree from TCC after he graduates. So far, Geoff has already earned his Academic Scholarship from UTA, even before he graduated. In college, he plans on majoring in Aerospace Engineering, influenced by his favorite teacher, Mrs. Mitias. During his time here, Geoff enjoyed launching his first rocket for Mrs. MItias’ class the most, seeing as how his favorite projects were both the rockets he built this year and his junior year. Geoff has had some good memories over his four years in STEM, and is excited to continue his engineering learning in college. Geoff would like to thank Mrs. Mitias for inspiring his future. Josiah Jenkins
Josiah Jenkins is an accomplished STEM senior who plans to attend Harding University in the fall and was awarded the Harding University Dean's Scholarship. He wants to major in mechanical engineering and hopes to be living in Minnesota in after graduation from college. He looks forward to having more independence after he graduates from high school. Josiah's favorite memories was working with great people to get projects done correctly and presenting to judges, with his favorite project being the 1:1 Rocket. He would like to thank Mrs. Helmick for her support during the past four years. Sienan Love
Sienan Love plans to wants to go to Stüdienbrücke GAAP year for language training to study at a German University. He also hopes, in five years, to have a bachelor’s, be fluent in German, and earn a stem cell research associate job. Like most seniors, he is looking forward to freedom, travel, and new experiences. Of all of the STEM projects, Sienan enjoyed the Zoo Project and School of the Future Project the most because they both incorporated a large amount of creativity, and were enjoyable, despite the stress. Everyone has a favorite memory of STEM, some from the School of the Future Project and others from Showcase, but Sienan’s favorite memory was of his rocket in Aerospace, since it required some of the most teamwork and effort throughout his STEM career. Sienan would like to thank all his teachers for their support. Justin Kolkmeier
Justin Kolkmeier plans to attend the University of North Texas. He is excited for the bills, taxes, debt, and insurance he will meet after graduation. His favorite project was the Rube Goldberg project because it allowed him to express the most freedom, and his most memorable part of STEM was going to freshman camp and getting to know his fellow peers. Justin wants to thank all of his teachers for their support over the years. Derek Maynard
Derek Maynard is a STEM senior who plans on attending North Central Texas College in Corinth, Texas, to focus on completing basic courses, then to transfer to a university to get an architecture degree. He is excited for the new freedoms he will encounter after graduation and sees himself working at an architecture firm in 5 years. His favorite memory from STEM was building and launching several expensive, high-powered rockets. He would like to thank Mr. Hofer and Mrs. Delong for showing him his strengths, encouraging him to follow his passions, believing in him, and pushing him to do his best. Breann McClanahan
After graduation, Breann plans to continue her education at Texas A&M while majoring in chemical engineering and biophysics. In 5 years, she wants to graduate college and begin working on her doctorate. Breanne also wants to start her 20 year career in the military as a Commissioned Naval Officer. Breann’s favorite project in STEM was the School of the Future because “I had a wonderful experience being a leader and someone who everyone looked up to.” Out of the many teachers that Breann appreciated, she would like to thank Mrs. Delong for always being patient with her when she asked questions in class, and how she always cared about the problems that her students had. Wesley Miller
Wesley Miller has won scholarships to go to UT Austin. He will be majoring in physics at the prestigious school and wants to take a little more time to figure out what he wants to do in his adult life. His favorite project was the Aerospace Rocket project. He really enjoyed the Physics aspect of this project and he liked the road trip to Fredericksburg. One of his favorite memories during his time in STEM was the reading of Hamlet. He greatly appreciated his English teacher, Ms. Lloyd which translated to his love of literature and reading. Jacob Murillo
Jacob plans to go to college and get his degree in Civil Engineering. He is really excited to get to travel to new places after graduation. Jacob enjoyed the the food fight project as it brought together all of the core subjects, and his favorite memory was the field trip to GE for robotics. Lastly, he wanted to thank Ms.Lloyd for helping him improve his writing. Carlos Pineros
After high school, Carlos plans on going to UTD to obtain a degree in Computer Science. He is hoping to work an internship before entering college to gain more experience. Carlos wants to work for a major video gaming company after graduating college. Carlos enjoyed the Restaurant project the most as he, along with only one team mate, took on a gruesome project; he also enjoyed the zoo project. In reality he enjoyed all projects, because of the bonding you do along with the project with your teammates. Carlos would also like to thank all of his teachers that have been with him since day one, as they made him the man he is today. Danny "Trey" Ragsdale
Trey plans to attend Oklahoma State University and enter their Air Force ROTC. He has earned the SAME military scholarship along with a ROTC scholarship. He will focus on Aviation as his major, and he wants to be flying in the Air Force in 5 years. He looks forward to the fresh start he will get after graduation. His favorite project while in STEM was the cardboard chair project because he led his team to second place his freshman year. Trey wants to thank Mrs.Helmick for always being hard on him and allowing him to be in STEM. Austin Reyes-Peterson
Austin Reyes plans to attend The University of Arlington and majoring in Aerospace. Austin is a recipient of the Maverick Academic Scholarship. His most memorable project of STEM was the Rocket project where he watched his rocket fail, but learned many lessons along the way., His favorite teacher was Mrs. Delong because she had the most exciting class. Branden Seigl
Branden Seigl, a senior at Northwest High School, is graduating this year. After high school, he plans on joining the Airforce. While in the Air Force, Branden plans to focus on getting his degree in Aerospace Engineering. Over his time here in the STEM Academy, Branden has enjoyed doing many different projects, but his favorite was building the trebuchet for his physics class, which he got second place in. Branden’s favorite memory from the STEM academy was being able to make friends and watch them grow over the years. He would like to thank his favorite teacher was Mrs. Hendrix, because she was the perfect amount of fun and strict for him. Overall, Branden had a good four years in the STEM Academy, and we hope he will excel during his time in the Air Force. Shelby Villarreal
Shelby plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington and wants to major in Mechanical and Civil Engineering. She has earned a $8,000 scholarship from UTA. Shelby plans to have a full time job with her own house and a bunch of dogs within 5 years. Shelby is most excited for moving on to the next chapter of her life, going to Australia, and meeting new people. Her favorite project was the Zoo Project because it was fun to go to and research endangered species. Her most memorable moment in STEM was getting to go to the OLC and playing games with other seniors. She would like to thank Mrs. Delong for being supportive and allowing students to be themselves, even if they are annoying. David Wilson
David Wilson is a STEM senior who has plans to join the united states marines after graduation. He will be attending Camp Pendleton in the fall. In 5 years he hopes to be either in marines special forces or at the university of texas playing football. David is mostly excited about the new experiences that might come his way after graduation. The project that he remembers the most is school of the future during his freshman year. His favorite memory of STEM was being able to come into class everyday and it be a fun chill environment with some of the best teachers he has ever met. A teacher he would like to give thanks to is Coach Castleberry for the constant support he gave him on and off the field. “He helped us become the best athletes possible but is also one of the best role models i have ever been around because of the way he carries himself and his overall outlook on his life is phenomenal.” Elijah Witherspoon
Elijah is a senior here at Northwest High School and has been in the STEM academy for four years. Elijah will be attending Howard University next fall and will be majoring in Political Science. In 5 years, Elijah would like to be starting law school at SMU. Elijah says he would like to leave all of the high school negativity in the past and looks forward to starting school in a new region of the U.S. In his 4 years in the academy, he has many memories but one of his favorite projects was the trebuchet project because he says it was the first tangible thing he ever built with his hands and the whole process was a new enjoyable experience for him. One of the teachers that Elijah would like to thank is Mrs. DeLong he said, “She is always such a fun teacher to be around and she’s always willing to help with your problems, whether they are school related or not. She’s one of my favorite teachers out of the past 4 years and I am going to miss her.” |
Mark Anderson
Mark Anderson plans to attend University of Texas at Arlington next year where he will be studying engineering. During his senior year, Mark earned the Maverick Academic Scholarship. Marks favorite project during his years at the STEM academy would be the Rocket project because it was ‘the most interesting’. His favorite memory was the abundance of people he got to meet during his time at the STEM academy. He would like to thank Ms. Hendrix because she was very supportive when he had his chest surgery, and she never put on a fake persona for her students. Frankie Bernard
Frankie is planning on going to Texas Tech University and will be majoring in mechanical engineering. He eventually wants to own his own business and invest in rare-earth metal mining. One of his favorite projects was the rocket project because he had to travel to Fredericksburg for a few days and had a taste of what it is like to “live on his own.” His favorite memory of STEM is when his close friend, Bimmi, was beating everyone in a freestyle competition. His favorite teacher is the STEM administrator, Mrs. Helmick because she never gave up on him, even when he made mistakes. Daniel Bin-Mitende
Daniel is a senior in the STEM Academy at Northwest High School who will be going to college next fall. Daniel received a $25,000 dollar scholarship to Lamar University where he will be majoring in electrical engineering. After college, Daniel wants to work for a Boeing program to work on military aircraft. He wants to thank all of his teachers for their support throughout the years. Payton Blakely
Payton Blakely, a STEM senior, will be attending Texas A&M where he wants to earn a degree in mechanical engineering. He has a lot to look forward to, but after graduation, he is most excited for his senior trip. The project he enjoyed most in STEM was the super hero project because he got a 99% for his creation. Lastly, he would like to thank Ms. Hendrix, Ms. Delong, and Ms. Proudman for their support over their four years at high school. James Davis
Senior James Davis has his sights set on college in the fall at NCTC. He will be attending NCTC for a major in computer science. James wants to secure a job in cybersecurity at Fidelity Investments in his future, and he would also like to keep pursuing his musical talents. He is most excited to have time and freedom to pursue his interests. James enjoyed the trebuchet project his freshman year because he was able to apply his engineering knowledge toward his knowledge of physical sciences and it was pretty awesome to see the launches. His favorite memory was learning the engineering design process freshman year. James would like to thank Mr. Hladky for embracing his interest in mathematics and for being such an encouraging and strong teacher. Thomas "Everett" Goebel
Everett Goebel is an accomplished STEM senior with a scholarship for academic excellence. Everett will be attending Oklahoma State University in the fall with a major in mechanical engineering. In five years, Everett hopes to be graduating from college with a job. Everett is most excited about going to college, but he won’t be forgetting his fun times on the Texan Robotics team. His favorite project was the “One Pound, One Mile” Rocket project his junior year. Everett would like to thank Ms. Hendrix for sponsoring the Robotics program here at Northwest. Cameron Hunter
Senior Cameron Hunter has received a $8000 scholarship from UTA where he plans to major in aerospace engineering. After college Cameron wants to travel and experience new things. He has many good memories from STEM like launching his rocket in aerospace, but his favorite memory is School of the Future from freshman year. He feels that this really introduced him to STEM. Cameron also wants to thank all his teachers for their support throughout high school. El Fuller
Elizabeth Fuller will be attending UNT for a year before transferring into Texas Tech University. She plans to receive a major in Architecture and a minor in Computer Science. Elizabeth’s favorite project was School of the Future and her favorite overall memory was STEM Video Game Night. She has a great appreciation for all the teachers in the academy because they have all helped her succeed. Alexis Jodoin
Alexis Jodoin is an outstanding student who has taken many chances within her high school years to work toward her goal of interior designing in college. Alexis has a bright future with a scholarship for UTA. Within the time she spent in STEM, she enjoyed the trebuchet because of the hands-on aspects of it as well as the School of The Future project that allowed her to get insight on what she wants to do in the future. Alexis would like to thank Ms.Hendrix for of all of the help she had in her high school years. Christian Mangrum
Joel Mangrum is a STEM student who plans on going to college after high school. He is striving for a degree in mechanical engineering through Texas Tech University. Joel Mangrum is optimistic in going into the world and finding new experiences then working for Ford. Through his STEM years, his favorite memory is the Zoo Project. He would like to thank his coach, Coach Strader, who never let him fail. Michael Miller
Michael Miller plans on getting his bachelor’s degree from UNT in construction engineering. Later in life, he plans on joining the NAVY as a Seabee, the construction battalion that builds the boats, guns, and other needs for them. So far, Michael has been able to earn a General Scholarship for UNT. In five years, Michael sees himself having graduated from college, and entering his training as a Seabee. Over the years, Michael participated in many different projects, but his most memorable one was School of the Future, which he was project manager for. Finally he would like to thank Mr. Biddle, for being one of his most supportive teachers, and for providing him with all the memories. Owen N'dayizeye
Owen has plans to attend college at Texas Tech University. He is set on majoring in electrical engineering, which will require at least 5 years of college. He looks forward to meeting new people and having more freedom when he graduates high school. Owen remembered and enjoyed the one mile rocket project from aerospace, as he thought it was the project that took the most time and work to complete. He believes his entire 4 years a high school was a great memory due to the friends he has made inside and out of the academy and accomplishing making it through all 4 years of STEM. A teacher he would like to thank is Mrs. Helmick for keeping him on the right path and the support she gave in guiding him to be successful in high school. Nathaniel Ortiz
Nathaniel Ortiz is excited about graduating from the STEM academy this year. It is bitter-sweet, as he will miss the memories, but he is looking forward to starting his new chapter in life. Nathaniel would like to thank his teachers for everything they did for him over the years. Alexandre Plihon
Alexander Pilhon is a STEM senior who is planning on attending UT Arlington studying Aerospace Engineering. Alex also earned a Presidential Scholarship from Embry-Riddle. He looks forward to becoming a professional in his field and sees himself in 5 years either having a career with SpaceX/NASA or pursuing a master’s degree. His favorite memory was going to Houston and visiting NASA to present their rocket design to their engineers.Alex wants to thank Mrs. Delong for always helping him and giving him advice when he needed it. Joseph Ramirez
Joseph is a STEM senior graduating this year. He has already received several scholarships totaling at about $14,000. After high school, Joseph plans on attending Texas Wesleyan in order to focus on becoming an audio engineer for different theaters. Joseph’s favorite memory of STEM was being able to launch his rockets with Ms. Mitias, and his favorite project of all time was being able to participate in the School of the Future. Joseph would like to thank Marvin Harris for pushing him to do his best everyday. James Rodgers
JC plans to attend University of New Orleans and has earned the President's Scholarship, as well as, the Gulf Stat scholarship. He plans to major in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, and he is most excited for the freedom that follows with him to college. JC’s favorite project was the Transonic Rocket and his favorite memory was when he got a robot to work in Mr. Brown’s class. He would like to thank Mrs. DeLong and Ms. Hendrix for their support. Logan Stollfus
Senior Logan Stollfus will be attending TCC after high school where he will take his basics. He will major in civil or architectural engineering. In the future, Logan wants to have a stable career and is excited about traveling the world. He has many memories from his time in the STEM Academy like building his trebuchet, but his favorite memories are from their trips to the OLC (Outdoor Learning Center). Logan would also like to thank Mrs.Delong and Ms.Hendrix for all their support and influences on deciding the right career for him. Wes Watrous
Wes Watrous is a senior here at Northwest High School and has been in the STEM Academy the past 4 years. Wes says he is most excited for college after high school and will be majoring in civil engineering at West Texas A&M University. In 5 years Wes hopes to of graduated college with the skills he needs the start his own business. The project that he enjoyed most was the 1 lb. 1 mile rocket and his most enjoyable memory is seeing how far everyone has come since freshman year to now. Wes wanted to thank Ms. Hendrix, Mrs. DeLong, and of course, Mrs. Hendrix for all of the hard work they have put into the Academy and their students. Luke Wilson
After high school, Luke plans on going to the Navy to be an engineer. Meanwhile, he plans to work at Grainger before he starts his journey in the Navy. The project he had enjoyed most was School of the Future; his favorite part of STEM was getting able to be with his friends at the OLC and all STEM field trips. Luke would like to thank his favorite teacher in the whole school for everything, Mr. Hladky. Dale York
Senior Dale York will be attending TCC after high school where he will take his basics. He wants to enter into a career in either sports management or interior design. He has had many good memories during his time in STEM like launching his trebuchet but his favorite ones are from his Revit class. Dale would like to thank Mrs.Delong and Ms. Lloyd for all of their support throughout his STEM career. *And Mrs. Helmick for letting him 3D print Thor's Hammer.... multiple times. |
